Nice Shooter on Moultrie Cams in Late July

July has pretty much come and gone, but as it comes to an end, all the hunting shows are starting up and it seems to put everyone in the mood.  When I say in the mood, I mean in the mood for deer season.  I know all the talk about it has gotten me fired up and ready to go. 

On all my cameras for the last couple of months, deer activity has been pretty slow. So last week when I got home from the deer show in Birmingham, I checked my cameras.  Now, like I said, we haven’t had much activity at all but when I checked the camera I got a big surprise. I had a bunch of different bucks that have shown up and there is one in particular that I have my eye on for bow season. The good thing about him is I got some daytime pictures of him, also. Now I know that some people may look at the picture and say he isn’t that good, but for a South Carolina deer on 50 acres you have to get excited. We are all used to watching the outdoor shows on TV and see all these pro hunters shooting these Midwest giants, but most of us we don’t get to hunt those day in and day out. 

There are places that I get to hunt in SC that I probably wouldn’t shoot that deer, but there are other areas where he is a giant. It’s not just here where I live, though; it’s like that everywhere. I guess what I am trying to say is, a trophy is in the eyes of the beholder. I know a guy in Kansas where we hunt that will shoot the first little buck that steps out every year and is done for the rest of the season because you only get one tag. After shooting that small buck, he is as excited as anybody with a big deer.

I know when I go to Kansas I am not after just any deer, I am after a monster that I don’t have the opportunity to hunt any other time of the year When I am at home or some of my other clubs, my standards lower dramatically.  With all the “Pros” on the outdoor shows making it look like there is a trophy behind every tree – and trying to put a guilt trip on the everyday hunter for shooting a average deer – there is one thing we must keep in mind. That is, the whole purpose of us to sit in the tree and spend all the time and money that we do is to have fun! Now, if you get the chance to hunt a place like some of these guys are getting to hunt, I would suggest not shooting the first little buck that steps out; but keep it in perspective. I have a pretty good buck on camera so far and am excited about it, but now the tough part is getting him in bow range. Everyone please remember to let’s just have fun and enjoy our time we get to spend in God’s great outdoors!

I am in central FL and the bucks start coming in to feeder about end of Spet. Have some nice day and also night times pictures of some nice bucks.Just start hunting there last fall and had no idea what if any good bucks where even around.Was I suprised after veiwing cameras.Have a nice 12 point along with 3 eights.I know what you are thinking ,there are any good deer in FL. Well I have hunt IN,GA,and AL and there some nice deer.Will post pictures soon to prove it.
