Now is the perfect time to start preparing your fall food plots. Most cool season food plots can be planted in mid-August or early September. Go ahead and start making preparations now. If you are planning on planting a food plot in a new place be sure to take a soil sample to see if you are need to lime or fertilize the area before planting.
Also, when you lay out your new fall food plots one thing to remember is deer are more likely to visit a food plot in the evenings. With this in mind, plant your food plot in regards to stand location. If you are going to be hunting the plots in the afternoon then you ideally want to place your stand on a western side of the food plot. This puts the sun to your back making it less likely that big buck is going to notice you.
